Size Weight 5.4-8kgs (12-181bs) Body Short – coupled with good spring of rib. level back. Coat Long "silky free from curl" slight wave permissible, plenty of feathering. Totally free from trimming. Tail Length in balance with body "well set on" carried happily, but never much above the level of the back. Head and skull The skull is almost flat between the ears. The stop is shallow ‘length from base of stop to tip of nose about 3.8 cms (1.5ins.) Face well filled below eyes. Any tendency to sharpness is undesirable. Eyes Large ‘dark’ round but prominent. Spaced well apart. Ears Long ‘set high’ with plenty of feather. Nostrils Black and well developed without flesh marks. Lips Well developed but not pendulous. Mouth Jaws strong ‘with a perfect’ regular and complete scissor bite. Neck Moderate in length and slightly arched Chest Moderate ‘shoulders well laid back’ Front legs Straight ‘moderately boned’ Rear legs With moderate bone. Well turned stifle without tendency to cow, hocks or sickle hocks. Colours Black and tan ‘ruby’, Blenheim tri-colour.’ The Blenheim colour is unique for the cavaliers, it is described as rich chestnut marking, well broken up ‘on a pearly white ground colour.’ Black and tan ‘ruby’ are known as whole colours and tri-colour and Blenheim are known as partly colours. No white markings are undesirable on whole colours.
